Online Interactive fast paced yet thorough introduction to using Abacus. This GDS is primarily used in Asia and is similar to Sabre. If you want to work in Australia/New Zealand Sabre is the better system to learn.

The main tool of the Travel Industry, the Computer Reservation System is also called a Global Distribution System or GDS. This is the key skill of travel industry employees and these reservations systems are used on a daily basis by airline, travel agency and tour company employees. If you need to learn these skills fast (with a particular job in mind) or need a course to complement university management qualifications then this accelerated course will help you gain insight and understanding into the use of the Abacus reservations system and all reservations systems. Be prepared to work hard and you will learn heaps!

What you will learn:

On this course you will learn how to check for airline seat availability, make, amend and cancel client bookings, quote airfares, issue e-tickets and many more travel industry processes – you will actually be doing what Travel Industry Employees do each day while learning a great deal about the airline and agency sectors.

Divided topics, lessons, drills and exercises followed by quizes and final assessment to demonstrate competency. It is important to take each quiz as the questions reinforce the learning process and help you to remember the key learning points.

You should complete the material within 3 – 4 months ideally for maximum retention but you have access to the material for 6 months after registration – at which time your access will expire. By this time you should have also completed the final assessment tasks.

Qualifications/accreditation/recognition
On demonstration of competence and successful completion of this Unit of Competency a nationally accredited and industry recognised Statement of Attainment will be issued. This represents credit towards the SIT30207 Certificate IIII in Tourism (Retail Travel Sales)

If you are not currently working in the industry you should consider taking the Introduction to Travel & Tourism course as well to give you the background to the travel industry that will be helpful.

Who is this course for

Computer Reservations Systems Training is designed for people who wish to work in the operations area of the Travel Industry. Abacus is not widely used in Australia so it is best taken by people with jobs requiring this specific GDS's skills. This could include working for an airline in the Reservations or Fares & Ticketing department, a Ticket Consolidator, Tour Operator or as a Travel Agent/ Travel Consultant. This course is designed to accelerate the learning process for those who need to learn an industry skill in a short time.

encode/decode cities, airports and airlines PNR mandatory fields, PNR optional fields, building a complete PNR, "Bargain Finder" fare search, PNR data change and delete, car bookings, changing segment status, classes of service, , fare quote, fares, fare displays, flight availability, flight service information, hotel bookings, introduction to reducing/dividing PNRs, itinerary pricing, queues, rules, seat assignments, seat maps, sign-off, sign-on, storing a fare, ticketing

Assessment

There are formative quizzes throughout the course, plus drills and exercises. There are 2 final assessments – skills and knowledge must be demonstrated prior to issuance of the Statement of Attainment.

Is it for you?

If you want to work in travel and need to know what GDS skills are all about this training course is for you. On successful course completion you will be competent in the skills required to book client itineraries, fare quote and issue e-tickets. Once you have learned Abacus and can use it in the workplace you can always convert to another reservation system (Amadeus, Galileo or Sabre easity)

Good English Skills and a genuine interest in the Travel and Tourism Industry. Hayton College courses are accessed from a computer using the internet. Basic PC skills along with keyboarding skills are required to complete Hayton College courses.
